Long-time Building Trades President Georgine Resigns

Robert A. Georgine, president of the Building and Construction Trades Dept. of the AFL-CIO said he will resign effective April 15.

The surprise announcement on Jan. 19 was made at a meeting of the BCTD's 15 general presidents in Palm Springs, Ca. Edward C. Sullivan, general president of the elevator constructors union, was elected to fill out the remainder of Georgine's term which expires in August. Joseph Maloney, executive director of the BCTD's Canadian office, was elected to serve as secretary-treasurer.

Georgine, 67, began his construction career as a helper in the ironworkers union. He went on to become the elected business agent of Local 74 in Chicago. He later served as president of the lathers union.
