Union Official's Home Firebombed

January 2, 1987

HAMILTON (Special) - Police are probing the New Year's Eve firebombing of the home owned by Sam Deluca, an official with the Laborers International Union of North America.

Deluca was not home when a molotov cocktail was hurled into the basement window of his house, but police say his 21-year old daughter Sandra was in bed reading when she heard breaking glass just before midnight.

Shortly afterwards she saw smoke rising from the basement stairwell and called the police and fire departments. Deluca, president of Local 837 of the union, said he was not interested in discussing the incident when contacted by The Star.
